“Ricciardi: Hunger and Love”

<< Hate is still an emotion deeply coloured, not as affection , which is painted with watercolors. >>[1]

largeLuigi Alfredo Ricciardi , son of Baron Ricciardi Malomonte and Mrs. Marta , was born in 1900 in a small town of Cilento . Both parents died when he was a baby and he was raised by the loving nanny Rosa , relying financially on the family fund profits .
He opts for Law at the University, after which he enters the police command centre in Napoli . Become one of the youngest inspector , he lives in Via Santa Teresa where he continues to be cared by Rosa .
Since Luigi was a child he realised to be different , in fact, he had visions. He sees and hears the final seconds in the lives of victims of violent deaths. It is both a gift and a curse. It has helped him become one of the most acute and successful homicide detectives in the Naples police force. For this distance with the rest of the world he has a melancholy and lonely character, and when dealing with a case he does not stop working on it until he solve it , sliding down decisively and effectively in it , just to get to deeply understand   all the people involved. His sense of justice is deep and incorruptible and in the period of his employment ( the thirties ) this causes him more problems than benefits , more enemies than approvals.
Ricciardi is convinced that behind every crime the rationale of the person responsible can clear up with two reasons : hunger or love .

<< As always , the sight of a death by human hand , Ricciardi thought caused by hunger and love , the ancient enemies that sometimes gang up , becoming shadows of each other , providing alibis for each other , hiding among them and confusing ideas to those who dug the search of the criminal >>

Born from the pen of the Neapolitan writer Maurizio De Giovanni[3] , Ricciardi is the protagonist of a series of novels , and I honestly do not feel comfortable to pick just one, all of them should be read! [4]

“These are ingenious crime novels, written with intelligence and enthusiasm. […] anyone who loves Italy and especially Naples, and anyone who seeks crime fiction that marries entertainment and illuminating reflections on history and the human condition, will surely find these novels fascinating and compelling.”[5]

Winter possibly – although the Commissioner has adventures for all seasons – sit on a chair with armrests , perhaps in front of a fireplace with wood crackling in the background that mixes with rain beating against the windows .
Because the melancholy of Ricciardi is contagious , but in a positive way  , reading of him makes the reader nostalgicabout  the past which is always  better in the  memories , you want to see old friends , to write letters , to visit Naples and take a nice puff at Gambrinus (suggestion I recommend you to follow because they are a-ma-zin-g!!!)

Each novel is pure poetry , genuine emotion , a punch and a caress . Tears and smiles .
Each novel tells a little about the city , a bit of man , and a little about us …
